Boy is the hilarious and heartfelt Kiwi coming-of-age film about heroes, magic and Michael Jackson. A dreamer who loves the late pop star, Boy lives with his brother Rocky, a tribe of cousins and his nan. Boy’s father, Alamein, is the subject of his fantasies, and he imagines him as a deep-sea diver, war hero and all-round great guy. In reality, he’s “in the can for robbery”. When dad returns home, Boy is forced to confront the man he thought he remembered, find his own potential and learn to get along without the hero he’d been hoping for (see Film, p25).
