Tuesday at 4.30pm, in Target, seems as good a time as any to have an epiphany. There I was, juggling hats and shoes and raincoats as I hurried around the store grabbing items for my child’s school camp, when I looked down and stopped in my tracks. My jeans had a hole in them, just above the knee. It was just a tiny hole, but my first reaction was to curse at what a hassle it would be to buy a new pair. Normally, I would just go right back to my mad racing around, but that day I had observed the makeover treatment given to the winners of our New Year, New You competition. So instead of the mental calendar that appears in my mind when faced with yet another thing to cram into my schedule, it was our cover girl Jessica’s supremely relaxed face that was conjured up. And I realised it wasn’t the new hairdo or the flawless makeup that caused her state (although I know the experts helped), it was the simple act of taking time out for oneself. So, on my “mind calendar”, I immediately scheduled time to chase that serenity. I’ll let you know how I go.
